Air Fryers Gain Momentum in Bangladesh Amid Gas Shortage

Demand for air fryers in Bangladesh is increasing as households face ongoing cooking gas shortages and rising liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices. The electric kitchen appliance is becoming a practical option for families looking for reliable ways to cook daily meals. Many consumers now see air fryers as a necessary household item rather than an optional gadget.

The trend reflects a wider shift toward electric cooking as gas supply remains uncertain in many parts of the country. Households are gradually adjusting their kitchens to rely less on gas and more on electricity for regular cooking needs.

Gas shortages push households toward electric cooking

Bangladesh has struggled with residential gas supply for several years. Pipeline gas connections have been stopped in many urban areas, leaving new buildings in Dhaka and other major cities without access. In older buildings, many apartments also remain disconnected from the gas network. In many places where gas supply is available, the pressure remains inadequate for regular cooking.

As a result, households often face low pressure or no gas at all, making regular cooking difficult. Morning and evening cooking times are especially affected, causing inconvenience for families. Many residents say they cannot depend on gas for daily meal preparation.

LPG price hikes and supply disruptions

To cope with gas shortages, millions of households depend on LPG cylinders. However, the LPG market has seen frequent supply disruptions and price increases in recent months. These issues have made cooking fuel both costly and uncertain.

Families report difficulties in refilling gas cylinders on time, especially during peak demand periods. Some households keep spare cylinders to avoid running out, adding to overall expenses. Rising costs have pushed consumers to look for alternatives that are easier to manage.

Retailers report surge in air fryer sales ahead of ramadan

Retailers say demand for electric cooking appliances has increased, with air fryers leading the trend. According to sales data shared by Star Tech, a leading electronics and appliance retailer, air fryer sales rose by about 40 per cent over the past three months.

The increase comes ahead of Ramadan, a period when cooking needs rise significantly across the country. Many households plan appliance purchases in advance of the holy month. Sales growth has been strongest in urban areas, with smaller cities also showing steady demand.

To meet growing demand, Star Tech says it has expanded its range of air fryers from both international and local brands. A wide range of air fryer models from popular brands like Philips, Panasonic, Xiaomi, Walton, Singer, and Sharp are available at reasonable prices across Star Tech retail and online.

The retailer reports strong sales across different price segments, reflecting wider consumer interest.

Customers are paying closer attention to product quality, warranties, and after-sales service. Many buyers seek official products to avoid issues with durability and performance. With nationwide delivery and customer support, Star Tech says it aims to support households adjusting to ongoing energy challenges.

A practical alternative for traditional ramadan foods

During Ramadan, families prepare a variety of fried foods for iftar, including samosas, piyaju, beguni, and jilapi. Preparing these items without a steady gas supply can be challenging, especially when cooking in large quantities.

Air fryers allow households to prepare many of these foods using electricity alone. Users say the appliances help maintain consistent cooking results and reduce preparation time. With electricity generally more reliable than gas in many areas, families can cook without depending on LPG deliveries.

Health benefits add to growing appeal

Health concerns are also encouraging the use of air fryers among Bangladeshi households. Traditional frying requires large amounts of oil, while air fryers use hot air circulation, which reduces oil use by up to 80 percent.

Health experts say lower oil consumption can help reduce the risk of heart disease and obesity. Many families are becoming more aware of diet-related health issues. As a result, healthier cooking methods are gaining popularity alongside convenience.

Changing consumer behavior in the home appliance market

The move toward electric cooking goes beyond air fryers. Electric kettles, rice cookers, toasters, and induction cookers are now common in many urban homes. These kitchen appliances help reduce dependence on gas for everyday cooking tasks.

Market observers say consumers are increasingly viewing electric appliances as necessary household items rather than luxury products.

Air fryer prices in Bangladesh generally range from Tk 7,500 to Tk 25,000, depending on brand and features. Buyers often compare price, capacity, and warranty before making a purchase.

Mid-range models remain the most popular choice for regular household use.
