Chaldal, the Dhaka-based fast-growing online grocery startup, has named Omar Sharif Ibney Hai as its new (and first) Head of Growth as part of an extensive growth push.
Prior to joining Chaldal, Mr. Omer started multiple companies including ZettaByte Gadgets, a kids-and-women-focused ecommerce and a logistics company called Tiktok.
“Over the past few years, we have mostly worked on building a great product which we feel that we have managed to accomplish to a certain degree”, says Waseem Alim of Chaldal. “While improving product experience will remain a key priority for us, we have come to realize that there are opportunities for growth to explore that demand dedicated effort and attention and we believe Mr. Omer, given his experience in the industry and passion for our product, is the right fit for the job.”
As the Head of Growth Mr. Omer will be responsible to identify and explore growth opportunities for the company working closely with the product team and customer support team. The position will be liable to improve the experience of Chaldal’s existing customers collaborating closely with the product team in order to grow their usage of the service as well as find more ways to bring in new customers, says Waseem.
Chaldal, the leader in online grocery space in Dhaka, was founded in 2013 by Waseem Alim, Zia Ashraf, and Tejas Viswanath. The company has recently raised an investment from IFC among others as part of its Series A round. The YC company previously raised two rounds of funding from investors both in the US and Bangladesh. Chaldal has five warehouses in Dhaka and delivers over thousand orders per day and claims to have over 50,000 subscribers and 200 business customers.
