Grameenphone, the largest telecom operator in the country, has announced Michael Foley as the new CEO of the company, effective from May 26, 2016.
Foley will replace Petter-B. Furberg who has served as the interim CEO of Grameenphone since October 2016. Mr. Petter-B. Furberg has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Grameenphone Board of Directors and will continue as Head of the Emerging Markets Cluster in Asia.
Mr. Foley (56) has been with Telenor Group since 2014, most recently as the CEO of Telenor Bulgaria. Prior to that, he served as CEO of Telenor Pakistan. He has more than 30 years of sales, marketing and operational experience in the telecom, retail and gaming sectors from both advanced and growth markets. He is a Graduate of McGill University in Montreal with a BA in Organisational Psychology, said a press release from Telenor.
Grameenphone is the largest mobile telecommunications operator in Bangladesh in terms of revenue, coverage and subscriber base. The company, listed at the Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges in Bangladesh, is going through a transformation in the midst of a global change in the telecom industry. It has recently been investing heavily in a myriad of digital services starting from ecommerce to payment to entertainment.
