Why Are We Making a List of Extraordinary Women in Technology

‘The League Of Extraordinary Women In Technology [TLEW]’ is an annual list and extensive coverage of women who have done great work in the space of technology and contributed to building a better society.

We published our debut list of TLEW in 2015. It was an instant hit. It received huge attention from the country and abroad. It was shared by more than 3,500 people online within the first two weeks.

In 2016, we are doing it even bigger and better. This year, while putting together a great list, we also aim to share stories of extraordinary women doing great work in the field of technology.

While we published an overall list last, this year we are taking submissions for four different fields: a) Technology entrepreneurs b) Technology writers c) Technology researchers d) Tech professionals e) Independent Tech Professionals or Freelancers.

We have three goals in mind for TLEW list:

1) to inspire more women to join tech industry and try something around tech and
2) to try to promote and recognize women who already have started a career in technology become more successful.
3) Building bridge among and between women in technology and women who want to pursue a career in technology

Tech is a pretty recent phenomenon in Bangladesh. The examples of successful women in tech is hard to come by. After much work, we found a couple last year. Then we have realized, there are women working in technology but we don’t know about them yet. We have also learned that there is not enough motivation and role model for women to pursue a career in tech.

It is important for us to promote participation of women in the tech industry for our own good. We have realized that, as we are breaking into the tech, we have a great future but we have to work hard to get it tick. Inspiring women to take part in tech and promoting diversity is one of such important works.
