Banglalink's 3rd Quarter Revenue Report

Banglalink, the 2nd largest telecom operator in the country, reported revenue of BDT 12.26 Billion for the 3rd quarter of 2016, a 3% growth from the same period last year, said a statement by Vimpelcom. The third quarter figure takes Banglalink's total gross revenue so far in 2016 to BDT 36.70 Billion, 5 percent up from last year.

Banglalink ended the quarter with an active customer base of 29 million, down 10.27 percent from a year earlier.

The mobile operator saw a 9% average revenue growth per user per month largely driven by data growth. The company saw a 45 percent data revenue growth to BDT 1.3 Billion, despite a lower voice revenue. The average data use every month by each customer of Banglalink grew to 254 megabytes from 104MB a year earlier at the end of September this year.

Data business for telecom operators has been growing rapidly in the recent years. A recent report we published said, "an increasing number of people are opting for mobile internet, data posted by top 03 telecom brands for the first half of 2016 shows. The top three Telecom operators of the country Grameenphone, Banglalink, and Robi, combinely earned BDT 10.14 Billion from data services, a 40% growth from the same period last year". Said that, competition for data and digital services among telecom operators is also growing at a rapid pace.
